Mixed Media Moods – September

At home with Bee Sew Whimsical

Hi Craftin’ Friends… September Mixed Media Moods Challenge has bought the most gorgeous colour palette.  Seriously friends… this challenge you’ve got to do.  Be it mixed media, sewing, scrapping or any other craft you can imagine – JUST DO IT

So September for me is the start of Spring.  It’s fresh, it’s sunshiny, it’s green and earthy with the beginnings of all things new. This colour palette was rich in earthy green and brown autumn tones (opps, not Spring… LOL!!), and VINTAGE SCRUMPTIOUSNESS !!  I can go Vintage… all cool…

» DeeDee Catron and  » Jennifer Engle – they always inspire my artsy soul, with their mood board creations. Not only are they seriously talented… they know how to put a creative mood board together that will spark your imagination. Don’t forget to buzz over and see what they both created. That gorgeous mood board below will take you there…

Back to the mood board.  Isn’t this the most GORGEOUS mood board… so I spent the day with a limited number of items from my stash – I wanted to spend less time thinking and more time play, play, PLAYING!!

Mixed Media Mood Challenge – September by Jenn Engle and DeeDee Catron

The mood board was filled with all things vintage – papers, doileys, rusted keys and OMGooshness – a vintage typewriter. The colours earthy greens, clotted creams and rusted browns…  ARE YOU INSPIRED?  I AM!!

SO WHAT DID I CREATE?

NOTED: – It’s an altered composition book.  The Front and Back covers are completed but the inside is still a WIP.  I really loved the vintage typewriter – I had a journal note that I fussy cut around, some cuts down the side and a little curling to make it look like the paper is actually being typed on – what can I say… I love dimension…

I’m in the mood to create, so I just might make another book and actually record it to my YT channel… with a different colour palette. I have my video set up now to shake of the nervousness and record something fun!

Mixed Media Moods Challenge with DeeDee and Jenn

Quote

At home with Bee Sew Whimsical

Hi Craftin’ Friends… it’s been awhile, hasn’t it!!   Seriously, I’m so bad at this blogging business… but I will try to pull myself away from work, playing with supplies and designing new creations – just so I can spend some time with you and you can see what I’ve been up too…

I love Mixed Media and especially getting to mix my quilting fabrics and adding them to the mixed media palette.  Recently, I found talented artists  » DeeDee Catron and  » Jennifer Engle – they’ve inspired my artsy soul.  Gotta say… they both love using my favourite colour palette – clotted creams, dusty blues and chocolate browns (sepia, coffee stained, grungy style browns)… what’s not to love on when using these colours – RIGHT! Having said that… I really need to stretch my wings a little and play with other colours.  I believe, that their MIXED MEDIA MOODS Challenge each month will definitely inspire the creative mojo. (it just might also give me a little courage and start back to videoing again.) I also need to let go and just play… I tend to be too fixated on everything going together and being perfect… mixed media isn’t always perfect, it just is what it is and allows you to experiment, have fun creating.

Isn’t this the most GORGEOUS mood board… totally inspires my artsy soul to bring out the supplies and play, play, PLAY!! Those girls are seriously talented – you need to buzz over and see what they created.  It’s amazing what one’s inspired mind comes up with – you can have the same supplies, same colour palette and yet we all bring our own interpretation to the mix.  YOU HAVE TO JOIN IN… Don’t forget to buzz over to DeeDee and Jenn’s blogs to get your creative mojo flowing… that gorgeous mood board below will take you there…

August Mood Board

SO WHAT DID I CREATE?

  1. Warm and Cosy – these colours just screamed out to surround myself with my favourite things- quilting(stitching), reading and a hot cuppa tea… and this is what happened…warm and cosy
  2. Dreamer – this was an older piece that suited the colour palette – look at all that beautiful shimmer.  It’s now in the hands of a lovely lady when we exchanged swap mixed media pieces…

An artist is a dreamer consenting to dream of the actual world

dreamer

3. Hope – this itty, bitty 4″ x 4″ canvas board was so quick to make… just a gorgeous background paper, some dimensional embellishments (flowers, brads, pearls & a stinkin’ cute butterfly), lace piece (coffee dyed), stamping in the background, distressed ink on the edges and my earring from my wedding – easy,, peasy – you’ve just created a tots adorable mixed media piece…

Journal to the USA has arrived!

It took 10 days for this sweet little beauty to reach Idaho, USA and it’s new owner and another swap friend’s home. And just as my journal reached the USA, a journal parcel from the USA reached me around the same time… well give or take a day. Those time zones can be a little tricky.

This swap was all about vintage sewing.  For me, being a stitcher/quilter, this should have been easy. Firstly, I promised myself only to use what was in my stash – no spending allowed!! Vintage sewing ephemera just isn’t available to me… so it’s more about quilting and using what was available to me.  My style of vintage.  Secondly… putting this baby together was a nightmare of frustrations. Sewing in the first signature… lets just say I had to walk away before a complete journal was tossed into the garbage.  After clearing my mind… all the signatures went in smoothly.  Said that a bit too soon!!

My daughter and I were looking at the completed journal and OH BOY!! the middle signature was upside down… undo… redo…  all is good again.

Here’s the video… no time for editing out the um’s and ah’s – that journal needed to be on it’s overseas journey.  It’s also a little shaky… my tripod and me weren’t best friends that day, so I held the camera instead.

Next up on my list…

  • I have some more videos to make – the journal that arrived for me from my swap friend… OMGooshness!!! what an absolute vintage delight.
  • Then there’s the gorgeous journal from my first swap – it’s an explosion of rosey delightfulness!  So very spoilt by my journal friends.
  • A sweet little Tea Journal needs to be completed for another swap friend.
  • Finish writing up the pattern for a new Snickerdoodle Dreams pattern – he’s a little chilly but oh so sweet…
  • Prep for a craft show in late October…
  • Probably… actually, I know my accountant would love for me to send our taxes for her to do.

I have a million and one things to do…What’s in your planning or diary today?

We’d love for you to share your creative and life experiences – just add them to the “Leave a Reply” below or the fancy grey speech bubble.  I’m sure you’ve been just as creative and busy as I have.

take care – have a fantabulous day filled with creativity and inspiration
